One of the most important events of recent years for the Russian nuclear industry has occurred at Novovoronezh NPP, namely, the station’s new nuclear power unit №6 was put into commercial operation, RIA Novosti reports with the reference to Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation.
This is the most powerful unit in the nuclear power industry of Russia and the first NPP’s unit in the world built in accordance with “Post-Fukushima” safety technologies.
The corresponding document was signed on Monday by the director general of Rosenergoatom, Andrey Petrov, on the ground of a permission given by Rosatom. Earlier, the Federal Environmental, Engineering and Nuclear Supervision Agency (Rostekhnadzor) released the conclusion about the unit’s conformity with the design documentation, technical regulations and regulatory legal acts, including energy efficiency requirements.
At present, nuclear power units of generation 3+ are under construction in the United States and France, but it was Russian unit №6 at Novovoronezh NPP that became the world's first nuclear power unit of the new generation, which was put into commercial operation.
