Over the past two years, the authorities of Barcelona have discovered and closed 2,355 apartments, which were illegally leased to foreigners when staying in the city.

But the city authorities are sure that this is not the final number: in the near future, they plan to close 1,800 more apartments. However, the Association of Owners provides different data, claiming that the actual number of illegal landlords amounts to about 8,000.

It takes a long time for the authorities to close illegal apartments. This allows the owners to solve the problem on their own. For example, 90% of the landlords have stopped their activities without the intervention of executive bodies.
