On November 19th, the Head of ‘Rosatom’, Sergei Kirienko, and the minister of electrical energy and renewable energy sources, Mohammed Shaker, in the presence of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of an NPP in Egypt.




As the press office of ‘Rosatom’ told Construction.ru, there will be 4 generator units with a capacity of 1200 MW each. The construction site will be located in the Dabaah district. It will be the largest project built with the assistance of the USSR since the construction of the Aswan dam. The NPP will be constructed with Russian technology.
The agreement includes nuclear infrastructure development in Egypt, providing the future NPP with nuclear fuel, liability for exploitation, technical maintenance and repair of generator units, regulating issues of handling spent nuclear fuel, personnel training, and assistance in normative and regulatory basis updating in Egypt in the sphere of nuclear energy and infrastructure.
The project will be implemented within 12 years.
