The Federal Security Service (FSB) has initiated criminal proceeding against several high-ranking officials of the RF Ministry of Culture for large-scale embezzlement. The suspects have not been named.
As the agency’s press office reported in a statement, the law enforcement officers suspect that the officials, along with a number of entrepreneurs, embezzled funds allotted for the purpose of the construction and restoration of cultural heritage sites.
At present, the places of residence and work of the suspects are been searched by FSB officers. One of the Deputy Ministers of Culture, Grigory Pirumov, is being detained outside the capital on suspicion of embezzling public funds, claimed the media. Mr Purimov is in charge of supervising activities of several of the Ministry’s departments.
