Egypt and Russian have reached an agreement “on all items of the commercial contract on construction of a nuclear power plant in El Dabaa”. The Energy Minister of Egypt, Mohamed Shaker, reported the deal to Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, TASS reports.

According to the source in Egypt’s government, the date of the contract signing will be determined as soon as the document is approved by Egypt’s State Council.

On the 19th of 2015, Egypt and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on construction of the first NPP with four 1200 MW power units in El Dabaa located at the Mediterranean Sea.

Over the course of a working visit to Cairo in February 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that bilateral cooperation with Egypt in the field of nuclear energy provides not just for “the construction of a nuclear power plant, the matter concerns creation of a new nuclear industry in Egypt”. “This is a comprehensive set of measures, which sweepingly includes NPP construction, staff training, science development”, - he said.

As Head of Rosatom, Sergey Kiriyenko, put it, advanced Russian technologies will be applied in the NPP construction, which admits building of power units “of a so-called Post-Fukushima type with an absolutely reliable level of security”.
