Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, announced on Tuesday that cooperation between Teheran and Moscow is of strategic nature and is aimed at the fight against terrorism, Izvestia reports on the 16th of August.




According to Ali Shamkhani, Iran is ready to provide Russia with the infrastructure, as well as to make available its airspace for Russian aircraft to carry out attacks against the militants of ISIS (the organization is prohibited on the territory of Russia) in Syria.

This statement the Iranian official made in an interview to IRNA.

The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran called on Moscow to consolidate potential and resources in the counterterrorism policy of both countries.

As it became known earlier, Russian Aerospace Forces made a decision to use Hamadan airbase in Iran to carry out military actions. On Tuesday, Russian Tupolev-22M3 long-range bombers and Sukhoi-34 strike fighters took off from an Iranian air base and attacked militants in Aleppo, Idlib and Deir al-Zour provinces in Syria.

Previously, Russian bombers had used airbases located on the territory of the Russian Republic of Ossetia and in Syria.
