Toronto Mayor John Tory caused a broad resonance in the Canadian media by saying that he's “thrilled” senior governments had joined efforts to spend $360m in infrastructure money on the TTC, CBC News reports on the 24th of August.
At the same time, he emphasized that Toronto's transit commission should allocate 2.6% from the budget savings.
“We have by far the biggest transit system in the country and by far the biggest need and they've acknowledged that, which took courage”, said John Tory on Wednesday.
He pointed out that politicians would rather spend on new projects, whereas the existing ones need to be financed.
Mayor said he would prefer cost-saving initiatives to be presented in the budget of the year 2017.
