The corner stone of a bridge across the Dardanelles, a strait located in the northwestern Turkey, will be laid on the 18th of March 2017, the country’s Prime Minister, Binali Yıldırım, announced on Friday.
“I signed a decree on the construction of the Dardanelles bridge and an adjacent transportation infrastructure. That is the project has been officially launched. The date of a ground breaking ceremony is determined – the 18th of March 2017,” said Binali Yıldırım at a meeting of the Cabinet.
According to Prime Minister, the bridge will bear the name of “Canakkale 1915”, in honor of a military success of Turkey in the Dardanelles operation, over the course of the First World War.
