New head of Rosatom holds talks on Akkuyu NPP

The head of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Alexey Likhachov, held negotiations with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Berat Albayrak, regarding the project of Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction.




The meeting was held in Istanbul, within the framework of the International Energy Congress. On Monday, Alexey Likhachov is to take part in the Forum as a member of Russian delegation.

Akkuyu NPP project is estimated at $20 billion. At the beginning of June, 2016, chief legal officer of Akkuyu Nuclear, Ilya Smirnov, announced at Atomexpo 2016 forum that Rosatom was planning to start concrete placement at the NPP construction site in 2018.

The first power unit is scheduled to be put into operation in 2023, the facility’s construction is planned to be completed in 2026.
