Israeli Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Yisrael Katz, ordered to draw plans for extension to upcoming high-speed railway running from the city of Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Ynet News reports.

The route, which will take half an hour, will also include a station located in the Old City close to the Western Wall.

According to the projected plan, Tel Aviv – Jerusalem high-speed railway line will be extended into the Old City, situated near the Western Wall. The project also envisages construction of an underground stop in the area.

Builders will have to dig two-kilometer tunnels at 80-meter depth. The extension is expected to reduce congestion at the Binyanei HaUma railway station.
