President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, together with Turkey’s leader Recep Erdogan, opened on Friday a Cathedral mosque in Minsk, the capital city of Belarus.

“Since the old days, Belarus has been famous for its traditions of tolerance and mutual respect between people of different confessions and nationalities. This is our pride, our force and a guarantee for our resilience,” Lukashenko said.

He stressed that Belarus was a peaceful country. “We appreciate peace and tranquility, that is why we build cathedrals for all confessions,” said the President.

“I’m convinced that the Cathedral mosque erected with the personal support of Turkish President Recep Erdogan, my best friend and partner, will become an important spiritual center for Belarusian Muslims and the people of Belarus, a source of enlightenment and dissemination of ideas,” he added.
