The floor area of Munich airport’s Terminal One will be expanded by 80,000 square meters, increasing its passenger capacity by 6 million, Global Construction Review reports on Wednesday.

The project is estimated at €400 million and will be funded from its own resources.

In particular, a pier is planned to be added to the terminal, having linked the two modules and extending 320 meters onto the western apron. Thus, it will be capable to handle up to 12 aircraft. Moreover, central security and passport control area, as well as a dining and retail space are also planned to be expanded.

As Bavaria’s Finance Minister and Chairman of the airport’s supervisory board, Markus Söder, put it, such reconstruction works are comparable with building an entirely new airport.
