Dubai to invest $36 billion in expansion of its second airport

The Emirate of Dubai will invest $35.7 billion in the expansion and development of a second aviation hub, Al Maktoum international airport (DWC) located to the south of the city.

As it is said in a statement of the operator of both airports, two major projects has been recently launched that will provide the required capacity to operate the passenger and freight flows in the course of the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, as well as in the long term.

Due to one of these projects, the capacity of DWC passenger terminal will increase from the current 5 million to 26 million people per year by the end of 2017. Check-in areas, baggage drop-off and migration controls will be significantly expanded.
