Production of cheese made from donkey milk, that costs one thousand euro per kilogram, was established in one of the villages in northern Serbia.

At present, Russian energy company is negotiating a purchase of the farm, located in the Serbian village of Zasavica, producing the world’s most expensive cheese.

The product has such a high price, because donkey’s milk is not creamy and the cheese production requires special technologies. The price is also conditioned by the cheese’s rarity: there are only about 100 jennies in the landrace of Balkan donkeys that can be milked for making this cheese and each jenny is hand-milked thrice per day.

Director of “Zasavitsa” reserve, Slobodan Simic, told Life.ru that the contract with the Russian company is planned to be signed soon. The contract price is estimated at 1 million euro.
