Approximately 14.5 tons of fruit illegally imported from Western countries that support anti-Russian sanctions have been revealed and destroyed in the Russian regions of the Far East and Primorye over the course of 2016.




“Prohibited imports into Russia was discovered in places of wholesale and retail trade of such cities as Vladivostok, Ussuriisk, Nakhodka, Artem, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk,” - the press office of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance’ administration for Primorsky and Sakhalin regions said on Wednesday.

A part of embargoed products were crushed by a bulldozer, another part was disposed of by incineration.

A total number of 7.2 tons of apples, 4.3 tons of pears from Poland, 2.3 tons of mandarines, 280 kg of grapes and 300 kg of pears from Turkey have been discovered and annihilated. A small amount of Turkish apricots, as well as oranges from Spain and Portugal, strawberries from Poland have also been seized.
