Austrian oil and gas company OMV believes that Nord Stream pipeline will become a crucial part of energy security of the European Union, according to the statement released by Russian oil giant Gazprom following a meeting between the head of the corporation, Alexey Miller, and Chairman of OMV's Board, Rainer Seele.

“The parties indicated that the pipeline will ensure safe supplies of Russian gas to European market and will become a crucial part of the EU energy security,” the message reads.

Over the course of the meeting, supplies of Russian gas to Austrian have also been discussed. In 2016, Gazprom exported to this country 6,1 billion cubic meters of gas, what is 37,9% more that it was in 2015.
