Highest mountain road tunnel to open in Tibet

In September 2017, the new highest mountain road tunnel with the average height of 4.74 meters above the sea level is scheduled to be put in operation in the Tibetan autonomous region of China, China Daily reports on Tuesday, citing the builders’ headquarters.




The tunnel will be cut in Mila mountain, between urban districts of Nyingchi and Lhasa. It will become a part of the highway running from Lhasa to Nyingchi. The length of one lane of the tunnel amounts to 5727 meters, and that of the oncoming lane is 5720 meters.

The construction of the tunnel is scheduled to begin in April, 2015. At the moment, the works are completed by almost 70%.
