President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker decided to support the construction of a new Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
As the European media reported today, the corresponding document may be made public after the general elections in Germany scheduled for September. According to observers, thus, the EU intends to protect itselves from unpredictable developments that may take place in Ukraine in the near future.
We should remind you that Nord Stream 2 project involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. It will run from Russia’s coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany and is parallel to the existing Nord Stream. Investments in the pipeline construction reached 9.9 billion euro.
