Pakistan began construction of a fencing on some sections of its border with Afghanistan, Pakistan Observer newspaper reports with reference to the press office of the Pakistani army.
Islamabad’s plans to start building a fencing in some areas along the Pakistani-Afghan border was unveiled at the end of February – after a series of attacks that had shaken Pakistan in the middle of this month. In the past, Pakistan repeatedly stated its intention to build a fence on the border, but each times the idea was rejected.
However, in February, the Pakistani army announced following one of the incursions that the February attacks were carried out according to instructions of terrorists hiding in Afghanistan. As a result, the border with that country remained closed from 17 February to 20 March within the framework of the fight against the militants’ infiltration into Pakistan.
