In the near future, LafargeHolcim Ltd., a largest French and Swiss producer of construction materials, will announce a resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Eric Olsen.
This measure will be taken following an internal investigation of the operation of a plant in Syria that had been managed by this company until 2014. The due resignation of Eric Olsen will make the top manager the most famous victim of a scandal related to LafargeHolcim cement plant in Syria, which continued its operation despite the start of the war in the country.
Meanwhile, human rights groups claim that the company helped to finance terrorism. On March, 2017, LafargeHolcim acknowledged that its branch in Syria had been forced to make payments to militants from the prohibited terrorist organization, including the Islamic State. In exchange, the company’s workers were allowed to the plant.
