In the Chuvash Republic, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the former chief of a penal settlement who exploited prisoners in the construction of his own house.

As Construction.ru was told by the press office of the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the former chief of the penal colony is accused of abuse of office.

A 43-year man headed the colony settlement №8 in the Alatyr district. From May to November 2014 he exploited two prisoners as general workers in the construction of his house in the town of Alatyr. The perpetrator acted from mercenary motives and vested interests.

At present, the investigation is continuing.

Alatyr is one of the oldest towns in the Chuvash Republic — it was founded in 1552. The town’s population currently stands at 38,203 people.
