This September the Russia’s first Winchester tunnel is planned to be put into operation in Moscow at the intersection of Narodnogo Opolcheniya and Berzarin streets. The tunnel’s commissioning coincides with the Day of the City, the First Deputy Head of the Construction Department of Moscow, Peter Aksenov, told reporters on Wednesday.

As Mr Aksenov explained, all of the complicated elements (except for one section) have already been erected at the construction site, reports ours special correspondent, Peter Larin, from the ground.

If there are no unpredictable delays, the tunnel might be commissioned half a year earlier than scheduled. It should be mentioned that the peculiarity of a Winchester tunnel lies in its two-floor design.

The traffic contra-flow in Narodnogo Opolcheniya street will move as usual at the same level. Then the right-hand tunnel section deepens and goes beneath the left one, so traffic will move nearly 100 m along two floors.
