In Chukotka, the most northeasterly region of Russia, a large-scale embezzlement at Keperveem Airport has been revealed.

Over 58m roubles have been stolen from the local budget by the construction company, the Far East Transport Prosecutor’s press office told Construction.ru on Friday.

As a reference, in 2013 the “Air Traffic Management State Corporation”, a subsidiary of “North-Eastern Air Navigation”, struck a deal in the Russian city of Magadan with “Stroyvest” LLC to erect a complex of buildings and ATC tower facilities at Keperveem Airport.

However, a dishonest contractor didn’t intend to fulfil the contract. Having received in advance a payment of 30% of the construction work’s cost, i.e. about 58m roubles, the building company submitted a fake bank bond to the tender committee.

A criminal case of fraud has been initiated.
