The Republic of Belarus pays for Russian gas supplies in accordance with intergovernmental agreements and doesn’t recognize the country’s debt to the Russian Federation.

This is what the head of the Republic’s Energy Ministry, Vladimir Potupchik, said before a session of the Council of Ministers of Russia and Belarus Union State on the 12th of May in Mogilev.

According to him, the Russian and Belarussian parties interpret the intergovernmental gas agreements in a different way. Moscow believes that there is a price for “Yamal”, and Minsk insists that since the 1st of January the market equal netback pricing should have been offered.

Taking this into account, he concluded that there is no debt to Russia. Vladimir Potupchik has proposed bringing the case to court to settle the issue. At the same time, the Energy Minister of Russia, Alexander Novak, said that the Russian party believes that there is a $125m debt to Gazprom for the gas supplied so far this year.
