Rosatom unveils how Russia benefits from Rooppur NPP building

Construction and exploitation of Rooppur power plant in Bangladesh will contribute USD 8,4 bln in tax proceeds to the federal budget of Russia, say the documents distributed by the Russian Government’s press office at a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday.

The decision to sign an agreement between two countries and to grant a state export loan to Bangladesh with the purpose to finance the works at the power plant’s construction site is to be made at today’s session.

Documents provided by Rosatom say that this measure will ensure an increase in Russia’s export of high-technology products, a long-term workload of over a hundred of Russian industrial enterprises, as well as will allow to create more than 12,000 jobs for specialists and generate USD 8,4 bln in tax proceeds to the budget over the period of the nuclear power plant’s exploitation.

We should remind you that two power units of Rooppur power plant with a capacity of 1200 MW are constructed in Bangladesh with the participation of Russia. The facility is scheduled to be put into operation in 2022 and 2023. According to the Western media, the contract price totals USD 12,65 bln. The nuclear power plant is to be built upon the Russian project, on the coast of the Ganges River, 160 km from the capital city of Dhaka.

JSC NIAEP is a general design contractor, the construction work will be conducted by JSC Atomstroyexport.
