Today, the head of the North Caucasian department of the Russian Federal Guard Service (FSO), a general Gennady Lopyryov, was detained in Sochi by agents of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia on suspicion of embezzlement.

Over the course of a search at the general’s home, one billion rubles ($15,5 million) in cash were found. As Construction.RU was told by its source in the Investigative Committee, Gennady Lopyryov has already been convoyed to Moscow, where he is being currently interrogated.

According to the available information, the general was engaged in fraud connected with redistribution of land plots during construction of Olympic objects in the Russian city of Sochi.

Initially, Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov was also a defendant in this case. However, after Mr. Pakhomov began to cooperate with the investigation, he was given the status of a witness.

We should remind you that the Russian Federal Guard Service performs functions of protecting high-ranking state officials, including the President of Russia, as well as certain federal properties.
