A new road tunnel is planned to be built between the towns of Makhachkala and Buynaksk in the Russian Caucasian Republic of Dagestan, the representative of the Agency for Dagestan’s Road Infrastructure told RIA Novosti news agency on Friday.
According to the agency’s source, the project will be submitted for state expertise in August 2017.
“Construction of a new tunnel under Atlybuyunsky pass (Buynakskiy pass) is planned. Yesterday, the head of Dagavtodor Zagid Khuchbarov met with a representative of design and survey institute, JSC Lengidroproekt, Vadim Petrov. The issue of choosing an optimal road direction of the designed object was on the agenda,” he said.
He noted that, at present, the serpentine section of the pass is one of the most dangerous in the country, where accidents often occur.
