What’s up with construction of railway bypassing Ukraine in Belgorod region

The construction of a railway section between the Belgorod and Voronezh regions (Prokhorovka – Zhuravka) as a part of Prokhorovka – Zhuravka – Chertkovo – Bataysk railroad bypassing Ukraine is not planned, the Head of the South-East branch of the Russian Railways JSC, Anatoly Volodko, told Interfax on Thursday.

“At present, a high-speed line Zhuravka – Millerovo, which is scheduled to open in October 2017, is under construction at a heightened pace. Unfortunately, there was no enough funds, so bukiding the section from Prokhorovka to Zhuravka will not be carried out. At the same time, we are not going to abandon our original plans,” Volodko said.

Earlier it was reported that a new railway line Prokhorovka – Zhuravka – Chertkovo – Millerovo – Yekaterinburg with the length of about 140 km is planned to be laid through the territory of the Voronezh and Rostov regions. The project was estimated at 56.6 billion rubles.
