JSC Russian Railways plan to launch in Russia locomotives without operators, a senior vice-president of the company, Valentin Gapanovich, told reporters at a session of technical committees on Thursday.

“In three or five years, there will be major changes. We introduce innovative technologies with an artificial intellect. The will be no operator's assistants, and, in a while, there will be no operators either,” claimed Valentin Gapanovich.

He noted that unmanned locomotives are already operating at a Luzhskaya-Sortirovochnaya station in the Leningrad region. The experiment was started in Ust-Lug in summer 2015.

“We have a lot of new technologies, believe me,” stressed Gapanovich.
