Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and Shavkat Mirziyoyev opened a new railway bridge from Turkmenabat to Farab across Amu Darya River, Turkmenistan Today news agency reports on Tuesday.




Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Turkmenistan with the first state visit after being elected President on 4 December 2016.

A new railway bridge with a length of 1.75 kilometres is located in Turkmenistan near the border with Uzbekistan and connects the city of Turkmenabat with the village of Farab. The structure, which width is 60 meters and height is 10 meters, will allow heavy-weight trucks to enter the territory of Turkmenistan.

According to the agency, the bridge has a great geopolitical, economic and social importance for Turkmenistan and its neighbouring countries.
