Command-staff exercises of the Russian Airborne-Landing Forces started at Opuk military range situated in the Crimea; ships of the Black Sea Fleet and Russian Aerospace Forces are also involved in the maneuvers, the commander of the Airborne Troops, Andrey Serdyukov, told reporters on Monday.

“For the first time in the history of the Russian army, within the framework of the Airborne-Landing Forces’ exercises, three our units were simultaneously alarmed and partially redeployed to the Crimea with their standard weapons and equipment,” the General said.

According to Andrey Serdyukov, soldiers from the Novorossiysk airborne assault division, as well as from Kamyshinskoe and Ulan-Ude separate air assault brigades, took part in the exercises. A total number of more than 2,500 paratroopers and about 600 units of military equipment have been alarmed.
