Russia offers to Japan to build power plant on Kuril Islands — media

Japan and Russia exchanged proposals for joint activities on the Kuril Islands, and many of them coincided, Yomiuri newspaper reports with the reference to government sources.




At a meeting of deputy ministers of foreign affairs held on 18 March, the Russian side presented to Japan a package of 26 points. They include the creation of an enterprise for the breeding of salmon and trout, construction of a plant for the processing of seafood, formation of the commercial seafood marketplace, organization of sea cruises, construction and repair of housing and building geothermal and wind power plants.

Japan, for its part, offered to Russia a plan that included 30 projects: the construction of an enterprise for the breeding of sea urchins and scallops, as well as the plant for seafood processing, remote medical services to the population of the Islands, cruise lines, construction of hotels, establishment of geothermal power plants.
