At present, negotiations are underway between the German company BMW Group and the Russian local authorities on concluding an investment contract for the construction of a BMW automobile plant near Kaliningrad.
It is expected that the agreement would be signed by the end of 2018. According to the representative of BMW Group, cars produced at the new enterprise will be intended not only for the Russian domestic market but are also going to be exported abroad. The projected enterprise is designed to be a full-cycle plant. The industrial park “Khrabrovo” located in the Russian city of Kaliningrad is considered as a potential construction site.
The Kaliningrad regional authorities are also interested in participating in the project. In addition to providing infrastructure, the region can invest about 250 million rubles in the plant building. In the event of a positive outcome of the negotiations, the new BMW plant in Russia will appear in two years.
