On Thursday night the FSB detained a lead investigator of the Moscow Criminal Investigative Department, lieutenant-colonel Vladimir Khramtsov, on suspicion of fraud with apartments.
According to the investigators, the police officer was a member of a large criminal group consisting of law enforcement officials, the Life TV channel reported. This group has been responsible for dozens of fraud cases with Moscow apartments.
The gang also includes neighborhood police inspectors, investigators and operatives. They had been hunting for apartments belonging to lonely elderly people. Rogue cops forged documents and registered the housing with new owners.
The detained lieutenant-colonel had been working in the 13th subdivision of the Moscow Criminal Investigative Department, which is authorized to fight against fraud in the field of real estate.
