Today, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting chaired by chaired by Alexander Muzykantskii on the issue of the demolition of residential buildings on the suit of oil companies.
As our special correspondent Peter Larin reports from the ground, the European Court of Human Rights recognizes these claims unauthorized. The Professor of the St. Petersburg Law University, Michael Schwartz, gave an expert assessment of the situation.
He pointed out that, first, according to the law “On gas supply in Russia”, as of 1999, oil and gas companies could not be plaintiffs in lawsuits about the buildings’ demolition in the vicinity of pipelines.
Second, it is wrong to demand the demolition of buildings erected before the adoption of the law in 1999. Now the total amount of such claims is approaching one million. In the Russian city of Perm only, the courts begun consideration of 3,000 such cases.
