The building site for the U.S. embassy in the Norwegian capital of Oslo has been evacuated, because an unknown object has been found there, Reuters reports. The suspicious package sparked a bomb scare.
This information was provided by Norwegian police on Tuesday. According to the police source, the bomb squad has arrived at the site and is already investigating the strange item.
Having checked the object at the building site of the new United States embassy, the police came to conclusion that it was harmless, but didn’t rule out that it could have been placed there deliberately, for the purpose to “spread fear”, Reuters cites Norwegian police.
Police spokesman Christian Krohn Engeseth didn’t provide further details on the nature of the package. “What we can say, is that it was an object capable of spreading fear,” he said and added that video surveillance material would also be examined to clear up a situation.
