City administration of Barcelona may impose a fine in amount of up to 600,000 euro upon online renting marketplaces Airbnb and HomeAway for illegal leasing of apartments and houses, Mayor Ada Colau said in an interview to Catalunya Radio.
Ada Colau explained that the fine would be imposed in for “repeated violations”.
“It’s unacceptable that there are thousands of illegal apartments without licenses, that don’t bring taxes and cause damage to the neighbors. The city benefits from tourism, but there is a lot of disbalance,” Barcelona Mayor said.
Ada Colau added that the local authorities should ensure that everybody acted in compliance with the law.
