Speaking at a panel of the Federal Security Service (the FSB) of Russia, President Vladimir Putin said that the efforts in strengthening and management of borders in the Far East and Arctic region should be continued.

“It is necessary to go on managing and strengthening sections of the state border with undeveloped so far infrastructure,” Vladimir Putin said. The President explained that the matter concerned the the country’s borders in the Far East and Arctic region as well, TASS news agency reports on Thursday.

At the end of January, 2017, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that over the course of the current year, Russia will build about 100 principal facilities of military infrastructure in the Arctic region.

The status of Arctic spaces has long been a subject matter of a dispute between the USA, Canada, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The matter concerns the areas, where approximately 12% of all world resources of oil might be contained.
