Chairman of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Julio Borges, has addressed to the Finance Minister of the USA, Steven Mnuchin, a letter, in which he wrote that the possibility of Russian company Rosneft gaining control over a subsidiary of Venezuelan PDVSA – Citgo – was illegal, Bloomberg reports, citing a copy of the letter.
According to Borges’s letter, it will be illegal on the part of Rosneft to buy a stake of PDVSA in Citgo, if the regime of President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro is not able to fulfill its illicit debt obligations to Rosneft.
Borges urged the Committee on foreign investment in the United States to oppose the transaction. He also believes that the gaining of control by Rosneft is also contrary to the interests of the United States in the field of national security.
