On June 21, the opening ceremony of a monument to Russian Emperor Peter The Great was held in the center of the southern Belgian city of Liège.

According to the head of the project and a coordinator of the Belgian Fund of Peter the Great (Fondation Pierre le Grand) Valery Dvoinikov, this event is timed to the 300th anniversary of the second major tour of the Russian Emperor to Europe. The tour took place in 1717 and was held through the territory of Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands (which included a large part of modern Belgium) and France.

“Thanks to a successful campaign on collecting donations in Belgium, we were able to fully fund this project, which received a wide support from the city authorities of Liege,” he said.
