Lietuvos Duju Tiekimas (LDT) has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of the US company Cheniere Energy on the delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) directly from the United States.

This was reported by Reuters with a reference to the statement made by the Lithuanian state company.

For the first time, Lithuania buys American liquefied natural gas, the news agency stressed. The first deliveries are expected to be carried out in the second half of August 2017. With this deal, Lithuania hopes to diversify gas supplies and reduce its dependence on Russian gas holding Gazprom.

Earlier, the United States began to supply its liquefied natural gas to Poland.
