Competition Bureau, a Canadian antitrust regulator, has approved the merger of DuPont and Dow Chemical.

The condition is similar to that laid by regulators in the U.S. and the EU – companies should realize sales of assets announced by them earlier.

DuPont will sell a significant part of its herbicides business – FMC Corp, Dow Chemical will realize part of its plastics production company SK Global Chemical. Sale of assets is necessary to prevent a substantial lessening of competition.

On the 14th of June, the U.S. Justice Department sanctioned the deal of companies. The deal was also approved in the EU, Brazil and China.

On the 11th of December 2015, the Boards of Directors of the companies involved unanimously approved the merger with a view to subsequent separation into three independent specialized businesses.
