The construction of Russia's longest wooden foot bridge has started in the ancient town of Kirzhach, situated in the Vladimir region.

The length of the record-breaking structure will be 555 m, the regional press office told Construction.ru. That is 5 m more than the present-day champion, the Beloretsk Bridge in Bashkiria.

The wooden crossing over the Kirzhach River will connect local favourite Alexandrov Yard with the center of the city.

The work at the construction site of the new bridge will cost 1m roubles and is to be funded by the local print office, whose employees have already proposed to name it the Tipographsky (print office) Bridge. The structure is scheduled to be put into operation in July this year.
