The Russian authorities are discussing construction of a bridge to Sakhalin, which cost may amount to about 286 billion rubles ($5 billion), Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his annual Direct Line on Thursday.
According to him, the government is also considering construction of a tunnel.
“The cost, according to preliminary estimates, should be even lower than that of the Crimean Bridge. This is about 286 billion (rubles – editor’s note). But this money is not enough, because one bridge crossing is not enough, access roads are also needed there, as well as an interchange for the whole road complex,” Vladimir Putin said.
“There were ideas, and now they are being worked out, to build a bridge and a tunnel. Which is also possible. The decision has not been made yet, but we are certainly thinking about it”, the President added.
